Free human sense organs

So far, the method of setting the cracking pressure of the regulator is

  1. The mouth continues to inhale air at a constant intensity similar to the cracking pressure to be set.
  2. The ear listens closely to the sound of air flowing out of the second stage regulator.
  3. The eyes observe the movement of the pressure gauge and differential pressure gauge.
  4. Hold the regulator stage 2 with one hand and adjust the orifice or fine adjustment knob with the other hand.

When repairing a regulator, setting intermediate pressure does not require the help of many sense organs, but setting cracking pressure requires the use of all sense organs. Human sense organs tire quickly, and especially when tired, the senses become dull, which reduces accuracy. This method of setting the cracking pressure requires the mouth, both hands, ears, and eyes to be fully mobilized for the work, leaving the worker’s body unable to free itself.

SRSD uses a well-controlled micro-vacuum pump instead of a repairman’s mouth to draw air evenly and continuously. It shows trends over 20 seconds as well as instantaneous measurements, making it very easy to set the cracking pressure using only one hand.
Additionally, the cracking pressure can be tested by turning the breathing resistance control knob of the balanced second stage regulator with your free hand little by little from fully open to fully closed, allowing for a more detailed inspection.

By doing so, you can check the condition of the parts of the second stage regulator using a fine vacuum that is precisely sucked. (part aging, part oxidation, spring elasticity, cleaning condition, etc.)

This will be explained in How to Use SRSD.
